About Teen Court

The Sioux Council’s Teen Court program is designed to provide youth with a positive alternative to the court system. Youth participate in structured programs and group interactions which are intended to improve self-esteem, self-understanding, decision-making, communication, respect, responsibility, caring and honesty. We work closely with the Minnehaha County States Attorney’s Office and are court approved. Cases are referred to the Juvenile Diversion Program by the States Attorney Office. Upon successful completion of the program youth are granted a second chance to have a record free from criminal changes for which their referral stems from. Teen Court also provides youth interested in future law-based careers or just looking to expand their knowledge and the unique chance to volunteer.

Teen Court is held on the second and 4th Tuesday of each month except for holidays. Additional Tuesdays may be scheduled depending on the need. Teen Court is held at City Hall located at 224 W 9th Street. It is at the corner of 9th Street and Dakota Avenue.

Free parking is available in front of City Hall on a first come first served basis. There is also a lower and upper parking ramp on Dakota Avenue. The upper parking ramp is free after 4pm. If you park in the lower parking ramp you will be subject to a fine at your own expense. There is also no parking in the alley ways next to city hall.
